SpeedWerks: Automotive Projects
Porsche Performance/Racing Specialists

At SpeedWerks we are always up to something new! If it has the potential to go faster, we'll find a way to do it and exceed your expectations along the way...We have a variety of long-term automotive projects that we're working on – whether extracting the most out of some heads, fabricating a turbo manifold or doing a complete rebuild of an engine – each receives the same exacting care and attention to detail it deserves.

Listed below are some of the more interesting cars we've built recently (click on thumbnails to enlarge photos):

Porsche 962

Porsche 962 Restoration

This race car won Le Mans in 1988. It is one of the last true "ground effects" racers that the Porsche 962 Motor Porsche 962 Cockpit Porsche factory produced before ACO rules were passed that prohibited their use. Downforce is created by way of an undertray with tunnels that create a low pressure area underneath the car, thus "sucking" it down to the track surface like a vaccuum cleaner. From years of inactivity, this car's turbo seals were determined to be cracked and were replaced, along with a general freshening of the cockpit and top end of the motor. It was recently raced at the 24 Hours of Daytona in the Vintage race.

Porsche 914 turbo

Porsche 914-6 Watercooled Turbo

Andy McNeil's race car is one of the wildest 914s in existence. It is a tube frame chassis, Porsche 914 Motor Porsche 914 with unequal length wishbones and inboard mounted Penske shock absorbers. It has 6 piston Brembo brakes, and custom bodywork. It has an upgraded 996 Twin Turbo engine producing over 700 HP. The car sports lightweight BBS wheels, a MoTeC M600, ADL Dash, and full data acquisition.

Porsche K-935

Porsche 993

This project car began as race-prepped 934. The car was transformed into a 935 with a full Kremer Porsche 935 Manifold Porsche 935 Turbo body, and 750HP turbo engine. The car then morphed in to a 993 racer with a GT2 body with a normally aspirated 3.8 liter engine.

Camaro

Daytona Winning Camaro

This racecar produced one of Andy McNeil's proudest moments when he won his class at Daytona in 2000. This Camaro is currently being restored.

Twin Turbo Slopenose

This factory built slopenose has been extensively modified by SpeedWerks over the last few years. It produces 551 horsepower at the rear wheels! It is a twin turbo with MoTeC engine management, custom intercooler, ported Carrera mainifold, custom bodywork (check out the large flares), custom wheels, brakes. The dash has been replaced with a carbon fiber replacement that is much lighter than stock. All glass except the windshield has been replaced with lexan. The car has a custom fuel cell, and has a racing dry-break in the hood!

Street RSR with 993 suspension

This should be a racecar, but the enthusiastic owner plans to run this turbocharged car on the Florida streets. It has a full racing cage and associated chassis stiffening. The big surprise is the 993 subframe that has been grafted in the rear. Of course, the car will have large brakes behind the custom wheels.

Mazda RX-8

This Grand-Am prepared racecar has made several appearances at the Rolex 24 Hour race. It is powered by a 3 rotor rotary engine, and has a Hewland sequential transaxle. It has received a newly engineered rear suspension and other updates. Look for it in selected races soon.

3.5 Narrow Body

This narrowbody car would easily be overlooked if it were not for the outstanding orange paint and detail work. At closer inspection, a 3.5 badge and accompanying engine is revealed with MoTeC engine management and throttle bodies. This 350 horsepower sleeper terrorizes local streets and is tracked occasionally at VIR and Carolina Motorsports Park.

Carerra RS Replica

This street/track toy currently in progress will have a 3.8 liter, MoTeC injected motor. The lightweight chassis with 375HP will be eye-opening.
